After leaving the beautiful state of New Hampshire, we decided to take a detour during our road trip after we got back into Maine. This entailed taking a short visit to the town of Bethel, Maine. While we were living in Florida, the town of Bethel sort of became the catalyst for us moving to the great state of Maine. After weighing the pros and cons of the area, we decided to move elsewhere in the state, although we still wanted to visit this area of Maine at some point. The Bethel Inn Resort was something we were interested in before we moved here. It only took us almost five years to get there! We used to frequent many places like this in Connecticut and Massachusetts. A couple of our favorite places included the Mayflower Inn & Spa in Washington, Connecticut and the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. My favorite was the Red Lion Inn. We have spent many memorable holidays at the inn while dining on excellent meals and enjoying fine wine. The area is also quite festive during this time of year. Every Christmas season, the town of Stockbridge holds an event that recreates Norman Rockwell’s painting, Home for Christmas (Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas), 1967. The town goes all out and puts a lot of effort into making the area a festive New England setting decorated with plenty of holiday wreaths and festive lights. We have yet to make it to this event, but maybe in the future, we will. Until then, perhaps Bethel will have to be our new place for exploring.
This was a quick visit, so we only took a few photographs while walking around the grounds of the hotel and the town common. While photographing the area, we were losing light, but I think this time of day ended up highlighted the fall foliage quite nicely.

I hope you enjoy the photos. We hope to get back to visit the area one of these days and maybe explore Bethel a little further. Bethel is a wonderful area to visit and it is known as “Maine’s most beautiful mountain village.”
