As the largest of the horse breeds, draft horses were bred for completing difficult tasks, such as plowing and other farm labor. Draft horses are tall, muscular and heavy-boned. There are several breeds with an array of characteristics, but all of these horses share a common trait as being gentle giants. These horses are not only valued for their strength, but for their patience and docile temperaments, making them excellent workhorses and companions.
The images below are of a draft horse called Piper, who lives at the Double B Equine Rescue in Industry, Maine. I’m not sure about his abilities as a workhorse, but he is very gentle and attentive when eating the horse treats I bring for him.
